The Baron of Mauá was born on December 28th, 1813, though he was not Baron then of course. He was named Irineu Evangelista de Sousa and was born into a poor Brazilian family. After his father died his mother remarried, and in order to avoid problems between Irineu and his stepfather, his uncle sent him to Rio de Janeiro at the age of nine.

At the age of fifteen his then employer, Scotsman Richard Caruthers, gave him a position of responsibility and when he was 23 years old was made a partner in the business. During a business trip to England during the height of the industrial revolution he saw things that inspired him to start up his own business. He was a true entrepreneur, a man ahead of his time, and also a man of vision.

Plasma cutting is the result of introducing an electrical arc through a gas that is blown through a nozzle at high pressure, causing the gas to turn into plasma and producing a focused flame that reaches temperatures of 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Automated plasma cutting systems are classified as either conventional or precision (high-definition), based on the characteristics of the cutting flame. Precision plasma systems are capable of producing parts to tighter tolerances, achieving faster cut rates, and producing less kerf and bevel than conventional plasma systems. The cost of these units can also be significantly higher than conventional plasma systems. It is therefore extremely important to properly match the shape cutting machine with the appropriate plasma cutting system.

Most electric-related accidents and injuries occur as a result of water existing in and around the construction site where electrical equipment and lines are being used and worked on. One of the biggest things you can do to reduce electric shock and electrical injury is to work to prevent water from coming into contact with electrical equipment and lines.

Constructions workers should, in general, exercise extreme caution at all times when working with any and all types of electrical equipment, such as panels, light fixtures, alarm systems, computers, transformers, conduit, and junction boxes, among others—particularly when near sources of water. Construction workers should also take the time to familiarize themselves with the construction site and all pieces of electrical equipment and spot any potential electric hazards in the site before they get to work, as well as to identify any electrical equipment that could become damaged through the use of various wet methods of removal.

There are a number of specific dangers linked to construction sites; the major hazard is falls from high places, although there are significantly more hazards, including those related to scaffolds, confined spaces, and electric equipments and lines near water sources. Construction workers often put their health at risk as well, with the materials they use and handle, such as lead. The irony is that the protective equipment worn by construction workers to reduce their exposure to lead and other toxic substances can actually increase accidental incidents by reducing vision, clarity, hearing ability, and dexterity, and increasing heat stress.

Even the safety of non-workers in and around construction sites is put at risk—particularly for drivers making their way past road construction sites who can come into contact with barricades and safety signs, causing accidents and injuries.
